Although weβre based in Lacombe, Alberta, we regularly place dogs in homes across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and beyond. People often travel to meet our dogs β and itβs worth the drive.

πΆ What to Know Before You Adopt
Weβre so glad youβre considering adoption! At Four Feet and a Heartbeat, our goal is to ensure the best possible fit between our dogs and their future families. To help with that, we ask that you review our adoption policy before reaching out.
πΎ Who Can Adopt
- β We adopt primarily to families and individuals across Alberta and Western Canada.
- π Out-of-province adopters are welcome, but must travel to us for pickup or arrange all transportation for their new companion.
- π You must be 18+ to apply.
π Home & Lifestyle
- π‘ A secure, pet-safe home is essential.
- πͺ΅ Fenced yards are preferred for many dogs but not required for all.
- 𦴠For dogs with high prey drive or known escape tendencies, we may require a 6ft fence.
π Health & Vet Care
Our adoptable dogs are:
- πΎ Spayed or neutered
- π¦ Vaccinated (5-way, Rabies, and kennel cough)
- π©π½ββοΈ Vet-checked before adoption
- π©Ί Microchipped, if applicable

- π Adoption fees vary by dog and are listed on each profile
- π° Fees help cover veterinary care, food, housing, and transport to our facility

π Adoption Agreement Preview
Before finalizing your adoption, you’ll sign a contract outlining expectations for care and responsibility. Here’s a preview of what youβre agreeing to:
πΎ Your Responsibilities
By adopting, you agree to:
- Comply with local pet bylaws
- Provide a lifetime of humane care (food, shelter, medical, and affection)
- Keep all vet care current
- Never use the dog for breeding, resale, or research
- Maintain a home and lifestyle that fits the dogβs needs
βοΈ Rehoming Clause
If you can no longer care for your dog, you agree to:
- Contact us first before rehoming
- Return the dog to us (space permitting), or
- Rehome privately to a suitable home that meets these terms
π‘ Note: Adoption fees are non-refundable.
π§Ύ Whatβs Included
Your adoption fee helps cover:
- Food, shelter, and care while in rescue
- Transportation to the care facility
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Vaccinations
- Veterinary checks during their stay

- You release us from future liability for medical or behavioral issues
- You understand that animals may behave differently in new environments
