We’re so glad you’re considering adoption! At Four Feet and a Heartbeat, our goal is to ensure the best possible fit between our dogs and their future families. To help with that, we ask that you review our adoption policy before reaching out.


🐾 Who Can Adopt

  • βœ… We adopt primarily to families and individuals across Alberta and Western Canada.
  • πŸš— Out-of-province adopters are welcome, but must travel to us for pickup or arrange all transportation for their new companion.
  • πŸ”ž You must be 18+ to apply.

🏠 Home & Lifestyle

  • 🏑 A secure, pet-safe home is essential.
  • πŸͺ΅ Fenced yards are preferred for many dogs but not required for all.
  • 🦴 For dogs with high prey drive or known escape tendencies, we may require a 6ft fence.

πŸ’‰ Health & Vet Care

Our adoptable dogs are:

  • 🐾 Spayed or neutered
  • 🦠 Vaccinated (5-way, Rabies, and kennel cough)
  • πŸ‘©πŸ½β€βš•οΈ Vet-checked before adoption
  • 🩺 Microchipped, if applicable

Before finalizing your adoption, you’ll sign a contract outlining expectations for care and responsibility. Here’s a preview of what you’re agreeing to:

🐾 Your Responsibilities

By adopting, you agree to:

  • Comply with local pet bylaws
  • Provide a lifetime of humane care (food, shelter, medical, and affection)
  • Keep all vet care current
  • Never use the dog for breeding, resale, or research
  • Maintain a home and lifestyle that fits the dog’s needs
βœ‰οΈ Rehoming Clause

If you can no longer care for your dog, you agree to:

  • Contact us first before rehoming
  • Return the dog to us (space permitting), or
  • Rehome privately to a suitable home that meets these terms

Your adoption fee helps cover:

  • Food, shelter, and care while in rescue
  • Transportation to the care facility
  • Spay/neuter surgery
